Mahatma Gandhi, Patience & Puzzles: Lessons for Kids

Mahatma Gandhi inspired values like patience, perseverance and self-discipline. Learn how puzzle games can help children practise patience, problem-solving and thoughtful thinking.

Mahatma Gandhi is remembered for qualities such as patience, perseverance, self-discipline, simplicity and peaceful thinking. His life reminds us that meaningful change often requires patience and the courage to keep trying.

But how can children begin developing such habits in everyday life?

Play can be a powerful way to practise them.

Puzzle games give children small challenges that require them to stop, observe, think and try different solutions. A child may make several attempts before solving a puzzle. Instead of giving up, they learn to try again, change their approach and stay focused.

This simple process can encourage important skills such as patience, concentration, problem-solving, logical thinking and perseverance.

Parents can make puzzle time even more meaningful by not giving the answer immediately. Ask questions such as, “What could you try differently?” or “What did you notice?” This encourages children to think independently and learn from mistakes.

Wooden interlocking puzzles, string puzzles, brain teasers and logic games can all provide age-appropriate challenges for children.

On Gandhi Jayanti, 2 October, we can remember not only Mahatma Gandhi's contribution to India but also the importance of practising positive habits in everyday life.

A puzzle may look like a simple game, but the learning behind it can be meaningful:

Think. Try. Make mistakes. Try again. Be patient. Find a solution.

At Mother Touch Toys, we believe in “Education When We Play”—because every challenge can become an opportunity to learn and grow.
